It's kind of interesting to me, as a Japanese major who lives in Japan, with Japanese fandom friends, thus essentially dedicating myself to Japanese fandom forever, to watch as anime/manga fandom essentially dies off in the Western world.
Some may argue that anime cons are reaching record attendance numbers, but I think that a lot of the people going to these cons are people who go because it's the only place that they feel they can meet other people who love Homestuck, Adventure Time, Doctor Who, etc. This is going to start rapidly decreasing as people start realizing that Comic Cons are NOT just for superhero comics, and that fans of basi
